My son saved up and bought his first bearded dragon, Spike, in 2005. A year later, he bought a female dragon, Tallulah -- again with his own money. He pays for all his cages, food, and supplies by performing chores and mowing yards. After Tallulah was a year and a half old, he decided to breed them and attempt to make some of his money back.
